​Mother’s Day Bird Hikes – Make Mom’s day special!

If you’re looking for something fun and unique to do with Mom this Mother’s Day Weekend, then a birding hike might just be the answer! Take mom and the rest of the family to one of these local bird hikes for a very special and memorable day. To make it even more unforgettable, get mom a new pair of binoculars so she can truly enjoy the hike! 

Don Edwards San Francisco Bay Wildlife Refuge – Saturday, May 13th, 10am – 3:30pm

San Jose, CA

Kick off Mother’s Day weekend on the right foot with a grand celebration of life. Enjoy guided wildlife hikes and live bird shows all day. Be sure to register for the hikes, as those individuals will get first priority. Also, feel free to bring a picnic lunch!

International Migratory Bird Day & Mom’s Morning Out, Saturday May 13th, 8am

Necedah, WI

Celebrate Mom’s weekend with guided hikes, birding-by-kayak excursions, and birdhouse crafts. Join Juneau County Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas coordinator for a birding talk and to learn how to help scientists by simply birding in your area.Registration is required.

Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge –Sunday, May 14h, Starting at 9am

Brussels, IL 

Plan for a fun and education-filled morning with mom at this Birding Hike for beginners. The free, gorgeous walk held in the Gilbert Lake Division is on loose gravel. Binoculars and bird guides are provided. 

Belwin Conservancy – Sunday, May 14th, 7am – 9am 

Afton, MN

Open to everyone – beginners and advanced bird watchers – this event is sure to be memorable for Mom. In partnership with Tropical Wings, hikers can expect to see native birds and other wildlife along the beautiful hike. 

Price Park – Sunday May 14th, 9am – 12pm

East Troy, WI

Join the Kettle Moraine Land Trust experts for the annual bird and nature hike at Price Park this Mother’s Day. Suitable for all ages and birding levels, the hike is among flat paths and gentle slopes. Hikers can expect to find migrating birds and other wildlife along the way.

Albilene State Park – Sunday, May 14th, 10am – 11am

Tuscola, TX

Bring Mom and walk the trail that once was the main road in the park. At only $5 per adult and kids up to the age of 12, free, it’s the perfect hike for all birding levels. All mothers will receive a carnation. 

Sand Ridge Nature Center- Sunday, May 14th, 9am

South Holland, IL 

Celebrate Mom and begin the day with a naturalist-guided walk to see migrating birds and gorgeous spring wildflowers. This event is free and binoculars are available on loan.

Cathlapotle Plankhouse, Sunday, May 14th 12pm- 4pm

Ridgefield, WA

Bring mom out to this event and enjoy birding nature walks as well as an opportunity to learn about various plants. This educational and fun event is great for the entire family! 

Audubon Nature Center, Sunday, May 14th, 7:30am – 10:30am

Denver, CO 

Treat Mom to a one-of-a-kind experience with this leisurely hike and visit to Bird Banding Station. Visitors will see songbirds up close as they migrate through the South Platte River corridor. Adults are $15 but all moms are free!
