Frequently Asked Questions

What is a ground tray bird feeder and what birds does it attract?

A ground tray feeder is designed to sit directly on the turf, patio, or garden soil to mimic natural foraging environments. The JCs Wildlife Tray Ground Feeder is highly effective at attracting ground-feeding bird species that naturally prefer eating off the forest floor, including doves, cardinals, jays, towhees, sparrows, juncos, and thrashers.

How do you clean and refill the JCs Wildlife Ground Bird Feeder?

This feeder is engineered with a removable mesh tray liner that lifts directly out of the poly lumber frame. This smart design makes it incredibly simple to dump out old seed husks, hose down the mesh to prevent bacteria buildup, and drop in fresh seed without moving the entire wooden structure.

What material is this ground bird feeder made from?

The outer frame of the feeder is manufactured from heavy-duty recycled poly lumber. This eco-friendly material is completely weatherproof and will never crack, split, or fade under harsh UV sunlight, pouring rain, or freezing winter snow.

What are the physical dimensions of the JCs Wildlife Tray Feeder?

The space-saving Medium variant measures 8.5" Height x 11" Depth x 11" Width. If you need a larger feeding platform for high-traffic yards, the Large version measures 8.5" Height x 11" Depth x 17" Width.

Does the JCs Wildlife Ground Bird Feeder come fully assembled?

No, minor assembly is required upon delivery. The feeder comes with clear instructions and all necessary hardware to quickly lock the poly lumber frame together before you place it out in your yard or garden.

Can I choose a color that matches my garden decor?

Yes. The JCs Wildlife Ground Feeder is available in a wide selection of vibrant and neutral color options. This allows you to choose an eye-catching pop of color or a natural shade that seamlessly blends into your existing backyard landscaping.

Nice open ground feeder go

Great feeders for the ground feeders like doves which prefer feeding closer to the ground if possible. Cardinals also will perch on ground feeders. I put peanuts on one side for jays & woodpeckers and squirrels and regular seed on the other side for all other birds all of which will also feed on fallen seed on the ground. Only saw a squirrel on it once but know over time they will all use it at some point - so long as the cats aren’t around! Probably chipmunks too. Very durable feeder. I bring it in overnight so a deer won’t step on the tray and ruin it.

The minute I set this on my deck the birds swamped it

The minute I set this on my deck the birds swamped it. It's the busiest place in the neighborhood. I've been buying feeders from JCS for years. I even bought bird houses AND the squirrel house. Even after years of abuse in Michigan weather, when washed, they look brand new. I can't recommend them enough

The feeder shipped quickly and was packed very carefully. Birds were all over it as soon as I put it outside!

The BEST ground feeder. Period.

Love the durable, weatherproof build of this ground feeder, and its sturdy, elevated legs that keep the seed above snowy or wet ground. But the BEST feature by far is its unique, removable tray with handle. So simple to remove and fill. So easy to take inside and thoroughly clean. And so convenient for whisking seed away at night to keep raccoons and rodents from feasting. I now own three different styles of JC Wildlife bird feeders, and all have been well worth the investment!
